Hi all –
As a firm, we have never engaged in commenting about or discussing – in forums like Reddit and Fishbowl – how we run our business and what we may or may not be doing. At the same time, we have seen a recent uptick in posts that are blatantly untrue, including posts about “continued layoffs” at the firm. And we want to address these rumors specifically and unequivocally.

We are not conducting layoffs. The last reduction in force at Goodwin was in January 2023, and we were very public and open about it. Like every business, from time to time we have to have difficult conversations with individuals with whom we have been working to raise their performance standards.
Here are some numbers for context. In January 2022, we had 2,843 people at the firm. As of October 2024, we have 3,104 people here at Goodwin. If you look at our associate population specifically, in January 2022 we had 1,052 associates globally. Today, we have 1,110 associates globally. The firm continues to grow. We just closed a record financial year, and we are continuing to hire in both our litigation and business law departments, aligned to our strategy. Earlier this month, we named 35 new partners. Later this month, 143 first-year associates will join the firm.
So, any talk about “continued layoffs” or “stealth layoffs” at Goodwin is both misinformed and untrue. We hope this clears things up for all of you who are curious about what’s going on at Goodwin.
