From Courtroom To Canvas: Quinn Emanuel Gets Creative, Debuts Arts Foundation With Ambitious Mission

The firm's new foundation promises to offer 'meaningful support' to the arts community.

Quinn Emanuel is one of the most successful law firms in the world, and it brings in millions upon millions of dollars in gross revenue each year. Now, during a time when funding for the arts is under fire, the elite firm is sharing its largesse in announcing the launch of the Quinn Emanuel Arts Foundation — the first ever art-related foundation established by a Biglaw firm.

“The Quinn Emanuel Arts Foundation is a first-of-its-kind initiative dedicated solely to supporting the arts,” John Quinn, founder and chairman of Quinn Emanuel, told Above the Law. “We’re expanding the role that law firms can play in this space — our firm doesn’t just defend art litigation clients in the courtroom, we actively invest in emerging artists and arts communities across the globe.”

Quinn went on to say that “[d]uring a time when national funding for the arts is increasingly precarious, we believe it’s more important than ever to uplift artists and provide meaningful support to creative ecosystems.”

As noted in the firm’s press release, the following attorneys will sit on the Foundation’s board:

The Foundation’s Board of Directors will include Quinn Emanuel partner Luke Nikas, Co-Chair of the firm’s Art Litigation and Disputes Practice, with additional support from firm partners including Jennifer J. Barrett, Co-Managing Partner of the firm’s New York office; Kevin Johnson, a 2025 Lawdragon 500 Leading Global IP Lawyer and former punk rock musician; Liesl Fichardt, a Legal 500–recognized UK tax litigation expert; and Julianne Hughes Jennett, a UK-based attorney named to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Litigators Guide for International Disputes.

Sustaining the arts has long been a passion project for the firm. The Quinn Emanuel Artist-in-Residence program, first set up in 2021, has supported 21 emerging artists with their own studio spaces within the firm’s Los Angeles, New York, and London offices, concluding their residencies with exhibitions. The firm has acquired at least one piece of art from each artist to include in its permanent collection, and these artists have gone on to show at respected museums and galleries.

“The firm’s Artist-in-Residence program has already provided meaningful opportunities for emerging artists to share their work at some of the largest arts venues, and the launch of the Quinn Emanuel Arts Foundation marks an exciting next step in our commitment to the arts,” said Alexis Hyde, executive director of the Quinn Emanuel Arts Foundation. “Much like the law itself, we see the arts as a vital force in shaping culture, challenging perspectives, and fostering deeper connections across communities.”

On July 31, the Foundation will formally launch with an exhibition at Frieze’s No. 9 Cork Street gallery in London, with a celebration to follow. Quinn Emanuel is also planning to organize a physical space for artists affiliated with the project globally.

Congratulations to Quinn Emanuel on launching this truly unique program to support artists worldwide. This firm’s efforts to champion the arts will be celebrated for years to come among art enthusiasts.
