When Halloween falls during the business week, it makes it even more difficult for lawyers to get into the holiday spirit. After all, how are you supposed to get your job done when you’re wearing a costume? Even a legally themed costume would be pushing it at some firms. Other firms, however, take themselves a little less seriously, and encourage attorneys to deck themselves out for Halloween. But with that bit of joy can come some pretty embarrassing — and let’s face it, hilarious — moments.
Take, for example, a story that was recently shared on Twitter by Matt Margolis, the head of community at Lawtrades. His awesome(ly embarrassing) Halloween story happened when he was still working at a firm. Check it out:
It was around Halloween and we were all in costume at the office. I was a hotdog. My boss asked if I wanted to go to a deposition (my first) and help.“
“Can I could wear the costume.” Boss laughed and said yes. Retrospect, that was a joke.

Walked into the conference room and opposing counsel and his client both look at me like I have two heads.
“Why are you dressed like that?”
“It’s almost halloween.”

Midway through I took the costume off and we wrapped up the event. Put it back on and was invited to a cake contest that firm has going on. Politely declined and headed back. Never did that again.

One day I’ll trick a network into making a funny legal show and it will feature all of my dumb stories

Hot diggity dog! His costume didn’t cut the mustard for the depo, but let’s be frank, it made for a great story he’ll be able to relish in for years to come.
