UPDATE 6/2/16: We’ve got some more details on what set off this altercation available here.
What we’ve heard from multiple sources now is that a second-year associate at a top Biglaw firm — think Am Law and ATL Top 10 — got slapped across the face by a summer associate from a T14 school. Even the world’s worst summer associate didn’t think to hit anybody.
Before we go any further, kudos to the summer associates of 2016! Ever since the Great Recession, summer classes have been a little on the dull side. Sure there are the occasional situations, but back in headier times, summer associates were leaping into the Hudson River in their skivvies all the time. So to have a physical confrontation between an associate and a summer this early in the season shows the sort of gumption we all knew you kids had in you.

The Law Firm’s Guide To Trust Accounting And Three-Way Reconciliation
Proper trust accounting and three-way reconciliation are essential for protecting client funds and avoiding serious compliance risks. In this guide, we break down these critical processes and show how legal-specific software can help your firm stay accurate, efficient, and audit-ready.
Interestingly enough, while we have multiple independent sources telling us that the incident took place, no one is willing to explain why this plucky recruit decided to play Slapsgiving with the young attorney. Maybe there is no reason. Have you ever tried talking to a young lawyer from, say, Skadden? They’re insufferably slap-worthy.
But left to our imagination, we’re assuming they’d just seen Hamilton — the kind of thing this firm might have the clout to pull off for its summers — and Slappy Summer decided it was time for pistols at dawn.
Hey, it wouldn’t be the first alleged time a summer associate had a gun pulled on them.
Anyway, without further detail we leave you with an artist’s rendering of the incident:
