Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady and the person she is, what she’s been through, and consider a pardon.
— Kevin Reddington, Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney, in comments made during an appearance on Good Morning America, where he appealed directly to President Donald Trump to pardon his client. Clancy pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her three children, and her five-week trial recently ended in a mistrial after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. There’s one problem with Reddington’s request: Clancy, who was not convicted, was charged under Massachusetts law, and a president’s pardon power applies only to federal offenses.
