Top Ranked Biglaw Firm Hands Out Market Bonuses -- But Only For Some Associates

More Biglaw bonus news -- but it isn't great for everyone.

Norton Rose Fulbright, which made $1,877,933,000 in gross revenue last year, making it 13th on the Am Law 100, announced it is handing out bonuses, of both the year-end and special variety. But there’s a twist — only some of the firm’s associates will see the headline-grabbing big numbers making their way around Biglaw.

As has become a tradition at Norton Rose, only associates in California, New York, Texas, and Washington, D.C. will be receiving the bonuses outlined in that chart. We still haven’t heard exactly what associates in Denver, St. Louis, and Minneapolis will take home, though it’s likely a “regional scale” below the Biglaw market numbers.

The bonus scale for the lucky (read: California, New York, Texas, and Washington, D.C. ) associates is as follows:

There are additional compensation updates for some folks outside of the major markets, as per the firm email:

  • Effective for the 2022 performance year, Denver associates will move to the Firm’s national base compensation and productivity bonus scale.

  • Effective for the 2022 performance year, Minneapolis associates will adopt a new lockstep base compensation scale that will begin at $180,000 for entry level associates, and will move to the national productivity bonus scale.

  • Denver, Minneapolis and St. Louis associates will be eligible for the revised productivity bonus scale above based on achieving certain performance criteria in the 2021 performance year.

Noted one tipster: “surprising NRF matched this early. Given the number of departures this year, maybe management is taking note.”
