Legal Eagle Wedding Watch 5.10: Toll House

We’re pleased to announce that HLS grads Tracy Zuckerman and Ryan Van Grack triumphed in a high-turnout vote to win ATL Couple of the Month honors for April. Kudos!
On to this week’s contest. Once again, it’s too close for us to call, so get your voting fingers ready; there’s a poll after the jump. Here are the entrants:

1. Elizabeth Arens and Christopher Mathews
2. Jennifer Toll and Brett Schulman
3. JoAnn Kamuf and Rusty Ward

Check out these couples’ resumes and photos, after the jump.

1. Elizabeth Arens and Christopher Mathews
(Buy them a dessert plate.)
The Case:
– The bride, currently an associate at Covington & Burling, graduated summa from Princeton and has a JD from NYU. She clerked for Fifth Circuit Judge Edward C. Prado, who officiated at the wedding.
– The groom has an undergraduate degree from Colgate, a JD from American, and a Master of Laws from Georgetown. He’s a senior counsel at the SEC. We couldn’t find a picture of him, but you can check out his political donations here.
The Case Against:
– Elizabeth, the daughter of a lawyer and a legal recruiter, fought gamely to avoid the legal profession, serving as a writer and editor at two DC political journals after college. But she succumbed, and now she wears a slightly more expensive pair of tortoiseshell spectacles.

2. Jennifer Toll and Brett Schulman
(Buy them a wine glass.)
The Case:
– This Pennsylvania bride was cum laude at Penn and has a JD from Temple. She’s studying for a master’s in real estate at NYU and working for a real estate investment trust owned by her father. Daddy is Bruce Toll, founder of Toll Brothers homebuilders and chairman of the company that owns The Philadelphia Inquirer (that neocon rag!) and The Philadelphia Daily News.
– The groom graduated with high distinction from the University of Michigan and has a law degree from Columbia. He’s an associate at Blank Rome.
The Case Against:
– When we read about the bride’s father being a builder of luxury homes and an owner of print media, we thought, “Sucks to be him in this economy. At least he doesn’t own a Chrysler dealership.” Oh, but wait — he does.

3. JoAnn Kamuf and Rusty Ward
(Buy them a cooling rack.)
The Case:
– A comedian-lawyer pairing is not something we see often, but that’s exactly what we have here. JoAnn, a graduate of Wesleyan and Fordham Law, is on leave from her associate gig at Cleary Gottlieb while she completes a public-interest fellowship.
– Rusty, who graduated from Albright College, is a comedian and the head writer for BarelyPoltical.com and BarelyDigital.com, two comedy websites. He’s also a karaoke enthusiast; you can hear him perform “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” on the couple’s NYT video.
The Case Against:
– Yeah, like we’re going to say anything bad about a comedian with two websites.
The Verdict:
We’re wavering here. Princeton + NYU + Covington? Penn + Columbia + wealthy father? Fordham + Cleary + normal-seeming people? Readers, make the call:
