Lawyerly Lairs: An Attorney's $7.5 Million Townhouse

Orlando and Samios bought the house back in 1988 — a very smart real-estate decision. They gut-renovated it in 2004, turning it into an owner’s triplex and a ground-floor unit (which they rented out to a pair of musicians, singer-songwriter Steve Earle and his wife, Allison Moorer).

The townhouse boasts approximately 3400 square feet — which might not seem like a lot to you Texans, but is huge for those of us who live in New York. Here’s some description, from the listing:

This 4-story, 21-foot wide Greek revival-style brick townhouse, with a provenance that dates to around 1844, has undergone extensive renovations that include an expanded rear terrace, French doors opening to a blue stone terrace, central heating and air conditioning and new plumbing and wiring. The fireplaces on every floor have been preserved, many still wood-burning, some gas-burning and decorative. These, along with the restored original architectural details, enhance the historic feeling found in both the upper triplex and the garden level floor-through apartment.

The house seems to combine the best of old and new. Note the impressive girth: 21 feet. In New York townhouse circles, the “magic number” that separates the men from the boys is generally regarded as 20 feet.

This house has beautiful hardwood floors throughout, including original wide-plank pine on the fourth floor, new staircases, 3.5 renovated baths and plumbing for an additional bathroom or wet bar on the 4th floor. The stunning spa-like master bath features a double vanity sink, gas fireplace, steam shower, Jacuzzi tub and radiant floor heating. The expansive top floor has extra high vaulted ceilings, two large sky-lights and a terrace that lights the all-open space. The new Marvin windows and an alarm system complete the home.

That fourth floor sounds fabulous. Let’s check it out….
