Caption Contest Winner: Can Sex Appeal Sell Legal Services?
Perhaps "Charlie's Angels Law LLP" would've been a fitting name for this firm.
Last week, we asked readers to submit possible captions for this photo:
On Thursday, you voted on the finalists, and now it’s time to announce our caption contest winner…
Early Adopters Of Legal AI Gaining Competitive Edge In Marketplace
As is customary with our caption contests, we will now reveal the backstory behind the picture. A tipster reported that she’d seen this ad repeatedly, most recently in Chicago Magazine, noting, “It makes me think of the Sesame Street bit about ‘which one of these is not like the other.’ I guess sex sells even legal services…” Yes, ladies, another woman thought this advertisement seemed sexualized.
But why is it that we viewed the ad in such a light in the first place? It’s probably (and sadly) because we’re so used to seeing women used as sex objects in other types of advertisements, and this one — full-length, head-to-toe shots are unusual in lawyer ads — reminded us of one of those. As I noted last week, though, I am very sorry to have continued to perpetuate these old stereotypes on ATL.
Anyway, here’s the winning caption (although I still think H. should have won; that one was funny!):
From Left to Right:
Melissa, the tough one
Sarah, the rebel
Marissa, the shy one
Mark, the one with the penis
Sandra, the boss
Jennifer, the flirt
Diana, the Giantess
Vanessa, the class clown
Alice, the . . . HOLY F**K, YOUR LEG IS ON FIRE!!!!!
