Judge Pleads Guilty To Stealing, Snorting Cocaine Evidence

Cocaine's a hell of a drug, eh judge?

One-line answer — I think addiction. He has been clean and sober going on four years now. … This is a big fall. I’ve been inundated with individuals who said nothing, but Paul Pozonsky was an outstanding public servant and a good judge. It always appears as though the genesis of most crime has to do with drugs and alcohol.

Robert G. Del Greco, attorney for retired Judge Paul Pozonsky, commenting on his client’s guilty plea to three misdemeanor criminal charges (theft, obstruction of administration of law, and misapplication of entrusted property) that arose after Pozonsky stole cocaine for his own personal use from case evidence stored in chambers. According to prosecutors, in one case, more than 50 grams of cocaine disappeared from Pozonsky’s chambers. Pozonsky is also accused of replacing the cocaine with baking soda. He faces up to six years in prison, and may lose his pension.
