Best Summer Associate Event Contest (2015): The Winner!

This wasn't exactly a close contest; the winner scored a runaway victory.

In June, we reported on litigation powerhouse Quinn Emanuel’s plan to radically scale back its summer associate program. In his memo on the shift, founding partner John Quinn wrote that summer programs are expensive and not the best use of recruiting resources.

But expense didn’t seem to be a concern when Quinn decided to ship off its summer associates, as well as all full-time lawyers who wanted to go, for a fabulous trip to Italy. The annual firm hike featured five days in Italia, a full-day hike in the Dolomites, and two nights in the stunning city of Venice. One attendee described it as “one of the most incredible experiences of my life.”

So it shouldn’t shock anyone that QE scored a runaway victory in this year’s summer associate event contest, grabbing 60 percent of the more than 2,000 votes cast:

What an excellent way for Quinn Emanuel to say ciao to the traditional summer associate program!

Protip for QE associates: please don’t email John Quinn to thank him for a wonderful summer program or for your offer of post-graduate employment. Your gratitude is “deemed to be properly acknowledged and appreciated. ‘Thanks’ beyond that is unnecessary (and not appreciated).”
