Honoring The Veterans Of The Supreme Court

A Veterans Day thanks to our justices in uniform.

Thank You for Your Service: JJ. Kennedy, Breyer, Alito & Stevens served in uniform. J. Ginsburg was an Army wife at Fort Sill, Okla.

— Wall Street Journal SCOTUS correspondent Jess Bravin, sending out a Veterans Day message to the justices who served. Justice Kennedy served in the California National Guard. Justice Breyer was once Corporal Breyer, serving six months in the Army and eight years in the Reserves. Justice Alito served in the Army Signal Corps, assigned to the Reserves, retiring as a Captain. And Lieutenant Commander Stevens served in the Navy during WWII, earning a Bronze Star for his team’s work cracking Japanese codes directly leading to the downing of Admiral Yamamoto’s plane. Meanwhile, Justice Ginsburg has the most impressive service record, since she had to live at Fort Sill.
