You may have heard that the late-night political talk show circuit had a new player on the scene, Samantha Bee. A former Daily Show regular, she is bringing quick wit, a progressive point of view, and fearlessness in the face of confrontation to her show, Full Frontal.
In yesterday’s episode she tackled the inevitable ties on the Supreme Court that Justice Antonin Scalia’s passing will bring. The Court had largely been split 5-4 along ideological lines on a whole host of issues, and without the conservative heavyweight of Justice Scalia, we seem doomed to a series of unsatisfying 4-4 decisions. While the initial reaction on the part of many liberals was to cheer — after all, a tie is better than a loss — Bee points out that when it comes to the super-restrictive Texas anti-abortion law, HB2, it isn’t time to bust out the champagne. In this case, a tie means the law stays on the books.

In the clip below, Bee engages in the most awesome/awkward confrontations with supporters of anti-choice legislation, resulting in this bon mot:
Have you thought about regulating the safety of back alleys? Because that’s where a lot of women will be having their abortions now.
Well played, madam.
The props and graphics are also A+. The image below, which imagines what the Supreme Court softball team looks like, is now the background on my computer, and it should be yours too. It is fabulous.
