Cash is budding up for associates!
Spring bonuses. It’s a term that will make Biglaw veterans reminisce for the days of yore when firms were willing to pad their associates’ pockets with some extra cash for all of their hard work. Sadly, those days seem to be gone. We haven’t been getting emails from associates anxious to find out whether we’ve heard anything about spring or summer bonuses.
But that all changes today. The drought is finally over.

Legal work isn’t slowing down, and the firms that win won’t be the ones working harder — they’ll be the ones working smarter.
Which highly profitable, litigation-focused law firm just announced bonuses for both lawyers and staff?
April showers bring May flowers, and in this case, Los Angeles-based litigation boutique of Hueston Hennigan is making it rain to the tune of $10,000 to thank their employees for helping the firm’s business grow and flourish. Don’t forget that this firm also handed out above-market year-end bonuses to all associates, regardless of hours. Tipsters tell us that Hueston Hennigan delivered the news about its spring greenery on Wednesday, April 6. Several happy associates reached out to us; here’s what some of them had to say:
~Hueston Hennigan LLP has given all associates Spring Bonuses. All associates received $10,000 on account of the firm's tremendous continuing success in its first 15 months of existence with clients like Space X, T-Mobile. and Sumner Redstone's current high-profile health care directive battle.
~All associates, regardless of year or hours billed YTD, received flat $10,000 bonuses. It was a gesture of good will from the partners, who recognize that associates have been killing themselves the last 4-6 months (several associates with 300+ hour months back-to-back during that time), and because the firm has been much more successful than expected. Staff also got bonuses, though I don’t know how much.
“[E]veryone is pretty thrilled,” another source said. “[It] could’ve been more but can’t really complain. It’s a tribute to what a big success the firm has been since opening, landing big cases for high-profile clients.” No, you really can’t complain, because Hueston Hennigan is the only firm to have announced spring bonuses this year.

Congratulations to Hueston Hennigan for all of the firm’s successes, and congratulations to its associates for working at a firm that “kicks ass.”
