In July 2014, law professor Dan Markel was shot at home and killed. In the two years since, Markel’s family, friends, and colleagues have wondered whether his killer would ever be brought to justice. With each passing week, the chances of the case being solved seemed to decline.

But tonight brings word of an arrest, as reported by the Tallahassee Democrat:

A man has been arrested in connection with the July 2014 shooting death of Florida State University law professor Dan Markel.

Sigfredo Garcia, 34, was arrested in Broward County Wednesday, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. Garcia is charged with first-degree murder….

A dedicated hotline to accept tips and the help of several state and federal agencies led to Garcia’s arrest.
