Mugshot: Judge Martin Landgrebe
State judges are apparently just like us: they get arrested for violent crimes, too.
Probate Court Judge Martin F. Landgrebe of New Milford, Connecticut, was arrested earlier this week and charged with third-degree strangulation and disorderly conduct after an incident that occurred on Monday afternoon. He turned himself in upon learning that there was a warrant for his arrest, and was arraigned on the charges yesterday in court. The Connecticut Post has more information on what allegedly occurred after the judge brought a woman home from a local bar:

Court documents state that the woman Landgrebe is accused of assaulting initially sought help from a neighbor, stating that she had been attacked and needed a ride to the hospital. Police later found the woman walking along Prospect Hill Road after the neighbor called 911.
While the woman had refused to cooperate with police when first approached, she later named her attacker as Landgrebe, court documents state, and that she was afraid of him due to his “connections” and because he could “make her disappear.”
The woman also told police that, while fearing for her life after the attack, wrote out notes that she dropped out of her bedroom window stating, “Help please help me… Marty Landgrebe murdered me,” the affidavit states.
According to the affidavit, the woman told police that Landgrebe had “never done anything like this before,” and she “couldn’t believe the things he was yelling at [her].” The woman claims Landgrebe pinned her to the ground by holding her throat, but she did not experience any difficulty breathing. Per court documents, the woman had injuries consistent with an attack, including an abrasion on her neck.
Landgrebe, on the other hand, told police that he was merely defending himself. He claims he was helping the woman up the stairs at her home when she started to scream and bolted out of the house. He was also injured, and sustained scratches to his face. Per Landgrebe, the woman had an alcohol problem and in the affidavit, it’s noted that one of her former relatives said she had “a history of erratic behavior while drinking.”
His next appearance is on August 30. Best of luck beating these charges, Your Honor.
