Wow! Biglaw Firm Offers Parents MORE Pay For Doing LESS Work

Which firm is offering this outstanding benefit?

lawyer with a babyWhen we last discussed parental leave policies at Biglaw firm, we mentioned that some, but not all, large law firms had risen to the occasion to make life easier for lawyers who were new parents. Now, a prestigious law firm is forcing us to eat our words by offering what may be the best benefit to be offered to lawyers returning to a firm after taking parental leave yet.

On top of its 18-week parental leave, Proskauer Rose is now offering a program that will allow primary caregivers returning to the firm after taking leave to work on a 75 percent schedule for six months while receiving 100 percent of the pay they got before they took the leave. The Am Law Daily has more information on Proskauer’s new program:

“What associates were telling us is it’s the transition back that’s so difficult,” said Joanne Ollman, Proskauer’s chief professional resources officer. “They have the pressure to keep their hours up when they’re trying to care for a newborn.”

Within 30 minutes of sending out the announcement on Thursday, Ollman said she got about a half dozen emails back from grateful lawyers, and some had already stopped by her office to offer their praise of the program in person.

Ollman wanted it to be known that the firm fully embraces flex-time working arrangements. Backing her up, Proskauer chairman Joe Leccese said: “Attracting and retaining the most talented lawyers is essential to our ability to deliver premier client service. Supporting our lawyers’ needs at key stages of their personal life is and will remain a critical component of our talent management strategy.”

Congratulations to Proskauer on going forward with this program that will surely benefit its attorneys and their families. Which Biglaw firm will be the next to step up and make life a little easier for attorneys who are working parents?
