It should shock no one to learn that I’m not really a Sanrio aficionado. As far as I knew, the company makes cutesy garbage that little girls put on their lunch boxes. If the characters had any adventures at all, I assumed Hello Kitty would talk to a Penguin about sharing or going to the doctor some other childish s**t. So imagine my surprise when I learned that the company introduced a pitch-perfect junior associate character, a single twentysomething rife with unending professional sadness, repressed rage, and a pronounced alcohol problem.
