Biglaw Merger Means The End Of 'Chadbourne & Parke'

Looks like Chadbourne & Parke will be getting hitched, and taking their partner's (firm) name.

shake-handsLooks like Chadbourne & Parke will be getting hitched, and taking their partner’s (firm) name. Today they announced a merger with Norton Rose Fulbright, and the combined firm will be known as Norton Rose Fulbright.

News of the merger began making rounds earlier this month, but, according to the New York Law Journal, now it’s official. The combined firm will have approximately 1,000 lawyers, and the powers that be at the two firms are making the appropriately complimentary noises about the upcoming nuptials:

“Chadbourne has a proud history, and is known for its world class practices in energy, infrastructure, banking and finance,” [Peter Martyr, Norton Rose Fulbright’s global chief executive] said in a statement. “Joining forces with our new colleagues, we can offer our clients significant new capabilities in New York and Washington, D.C. We will benefit from new offices in Mexico City, São Paulo and Istanbul, and we will be able to offer our clients expanded capabilities in London, Dubai, Latin America and other key markets.”

Andrew Giaccia, Chadbourne’s managing partner, said in a statement that the firms shared the same strategic goals. “Following the combination, our global offerings will be virtually unrivalled in many areas, from energy and infrastructure to finance, bankruptcy and restructuring, litigation and regulatory work,” he said.

Reports indicate Norton Rose wasn’t the only potential partner on Chadbourne’s list, they’ve been scoping out potential merger partners for about a year:

Sources close to Chadbourne say that the firm had approached firms including Baker McKenzie, DLA Piper and Hogan Lovells to discuss merger options over the last year, before settling on a deal with Norton Rose Fulbright.

Chadbourne has seen a stream of partner exits recently, including corporate and project finance partner Margarita Oliva Sainz de Aja, who joined Baker McKenzie last month; a three-partner arbitration team that joined Cooley last December; and bankruptcy partner Douglas Deutsch, who joined Clifford Chance last summer.

Chadbourne can now close their law firm Tinder account. Though, really, you should never close your Tinder account because it’s worth it to check in to see what desperate, revealing selfie Pillsbury Winthrop’s using for its profile these days.
