T14 Law Student Receives Brutal Beatdown Before Being Robbed

There's a special place in hell for someone who would steal a law student's laptop.

What’s the worst thing that could possibly happen to a first-year law student in the middle of his first semester? If you’re a law student or a recent law school graduate, your mind immediately traveled to an incredibly dark place — you know that the worst thing that could happen is something related to a laptop. Be it through laptop malfunction or laptop misfeasance, like theft, a first-year law student’s first semester could be shot entirely without his notes and outlines.

On Sunday evening, a 22-year-old student from Northwestern Law, presumably a 1L, experienced the worst possible situation when he was brutally beaten and robbed of his laptop, just outside of the school. According to a report from CBS Chicago, the student’s glasses were knocked off while he was punched and kicked by a group of as many as five people. When the hoodlums were through with their beatdown, they made off with the law student’s laptop and cellphone. A witness activated an emergency call box, and accompanied the student to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment. He’s currently recovering from his injuries.

WGN-TV has additional details on the suspects wanted for this crime:

The suspects ran away from the area on foot, but police could not find them.

The suspects are three men and two women. One man was described as being 5’4″ and wearing white pants, a white long-sleeved shirt and a dark jacket tied around his neck. The other two men were described as being 5’6″ and wearing dark clothing. A description of the females could not be obtained.

A review of video in the area is being conducted to determine whether any further details are available.

The Northwestern University Police Department has advised students to remain alert while traveling “on or off campus, especially at night, and law students have started to make a conscientious effort to walk in groups when leaving the school.

We wish this poor student the best of luck as he recovers from the physical and psychological trauma of having his laptop forcibly taken from him. For what it’s worth, the last time a laptop was stolen from a Northwestern Law student, his classmates banded together to raise money so that he could purchase a new one. Perhaps something similar will happen this time around; after all, it’s the Northwestern Difference™ that makes the school such a special place for students.
