Amazing that this all started with a motion to unseal records in a South Georgia state court, and ultimately led to literally hundreds of young women finding the courage to come forward and make their stories public. I almost never get to see the tangible results of what I do like this.

S. Derek Bauer, partner at BakerHostetler and one of the lawyers hired by the Indianapolis Star to litigate an open records request against USA Gymnastics, describing how that records request began the process of exposing the history of abuse by former Olympic doctor Larry Nassar. While BakerHostetler was engaged in litigation over USA Gymnastics’s records, the Star began publishing stories about the legal battle. Those stories encouraged women to reach out to the Star to tell their stories of the abuse suffered at Nassar’s hands. When those stories were published it led to the onslaught of victims coming forward, all of which culminated in Nassar’s 175-year sentence.
