Luck was on her side, because she cheated death that day.

Last month, Rikke Bukh, a first-year student at Cardozo Law was waiting for the subway to arrive when she fainted, falling onto the tracks just as the train arrived. Luck was on Bukh’s side, because according to police, she fell perfectly between the third rail and the platform, narrowly avoiding being electrocuted or crushed to death by the train.

Bukh was stuck beneath the subway car for 20 minutes before emergency responders were able to get her out, and she was then immediately rushed to the hospital in serious condition. The New York Post has an update on how she’s doing today:

Her father, Per Bukh, said his daughter has a broken ankle and broken vertebrae and is immobile while confined to a hard caste around her midsection.

“She’s still in a lot of pain,” said the dad, who flew in from Denmark with his wife to care for their daughter. “She needs to use crutches.”

We hope that Rikke continues to heal well, and that she’ll be able to return to school soon. On the bright side, if she was able to cheat death, law school should be a breeze.
