Some clients still refuse to pay for the services of junior Biglaw attorneys, and this raise could exacerbate that trend.

I think a lot of clients, when they read about this, are going to scratch their heads. Clients frequently say that they have a hard time paying Am Law 100 associate rates, especially for a first- and second-year associate that they feel don’t have a lot of experience.

Kent Zimmermann, a law firm management consultant at the Zeughauser Group, commenting on the corporate clients who will have to bear the brunt of Biglaw firms’ salary increases to the new $190K scale, which was implemented by Milbank earlier this week.
