The New Associate Compensation Scale Is Not Just For Elite Am Law 100 Firms

Size doesn't matter.

Boutique law firms were some of the first to respond to the fluctuating market for associate salaries, so we really shouldn’t be surprised that today alone we’ve reported on three different small law firms matching attorney compensation. These are the firms proving that you don’t need to be a behemoth to do elite legal work or to pay your associates accordingly.

See, we told you size doesn’t matter.

Greenberg Gross bills themselves as the firm to turn to for high-stakes business cases and they are showing that they’re a player, matching the Milbank/Simpson/Cravath scale. In the all associate email firm founder Alan Greenberg sent announcing the raises, he notes that the firm’s goal of an elite litigation practice is best served by keeping up with the Milbanks of the legal world and matching the top salaries:

There are many reasons why Greenberg Gross is a wise career choice for the most talented and dedicated litigation associates, chief among them the opportunity to gain valuable experience at a faster pace than at most large law firms. With this increase in salaries, we continue to ensure that the very best associates can join and stay at Greenberg Gross without financial sacrifice. Our mission has always been to build a team of the smartest, wisest, most ethical, most thorough, and most dedicated litigators and trial lawyers, enabling our clients to count on the firm to pursue justice in their most important cases. We have succeeded, thanks to you, and we are continuing to grow the team.

Oh, and they are also getting that special bonus on top of the increased base salary too:

Remember everyone, we depend on your tips to stay on top of this stuff. So when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Raises Salaries”). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
