West Coast Represents In The Salary Wars!

This must be a relief to WSGR associates -- and associates at peer firms -- that they've made their announcement.

It’s salary raise season in Biglaw, and that means your friendly neighborhood Above the Law editors are getting a lot of complaints from associates that have been left out in the cold by their firms. One of the most repeated concerns was the lack of West Coast representation on the list of firms that have increased associate salaries. Sure, Irell was an early adopter, but none of the big Bay Area/ Silicon Valley firms have ponied up market salaries.

Until now. Wilson Sonsini just announced they were increasing associate salary, and giving out a special summer bonus in accordance with the Milbank/Simpson/Cravath scale. As the new standard for associate compensation has been spreading through the Am Law 100 a lot more slowly than the associate raises of 2016, it is probably a relief to WSGR associates — and associates at peer firms — that they’ve made their announcement.
