Even more exciting? She recently passed the UK bar exam.

In the 66-year history of the Miss Universe pageant, a black woman has never represented Great Britain — until now, that is.

Meet Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers, 25, a 2016 graduate of the University of Birmingham Law School. Kentish-Rogers was born in Anguilla, a British overseas territory, and received her crown on Saturday, July 14. She will go on to represent Great Britain in the Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines later this year. From Twitter:

Here’s what Kentish-Rogers said about her win in an interview with BuzzFeed:

I think it’s really humbling and I think it’s also a privilege for me to become the first black woman who is crowned Miss Universe Great Britain. I believe that this is the direction that the pageant has been going in for the last couple of years because Britain is a diverse nation, we are a multicultural society and it is time that that diversity is seen on a stage where other young black girls and girls of all ethnicities can see that this is something for everybody not just some of us.

Perhaps even more exciting than her Miss Universe GB win is the fact that she recently learned that she passed the UK bar exam, and will be formally called to the bar in a ceremony later this month. “I want to return to law, it’s my baby, it’s what I’m most passionate about,” she said in an interview with BBC News. “What I’ll do is I’ll put it on the backburner for now while I chase my dreams for Miss Universe.”
