Biglaw Partner Found Dead In Suspected Suicide

The avid boater and fisherman’s body was found submerged between two boats at a coastal marina.

Today, we must report on some unfortunate news from Massachusetts, where a longtime partner of DLA Piper’s Boston office was found dead late last month. Local authorities believe that the cause of death is suicide.

Bruce Wickersham, a 1996 graduate of Boston College Law School, focused his practice on joint ventures, working with institutional investors, real estate private equity funds and sponsors, and real estate investment advisers during his 13 years at DLA Piper. The avid boater and fisherman’s body was found submerged between two boats at the Moby Dick Marina in the southern coastal town of Fairhaven. According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Wickersham’s death was the result of an apparent suicide.

John Rattigan, managing partner of the firm’s Boston office, released this statement on Wickersham’s death to the American Lawyer:

Bruce Wickersham

Bruce was a valued member of DLA Piper and his passing was a tremendous loss for the firm, the Boston office and the real estate practice. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bruce’s family and his many friends during this difficult time.

We here at Above the Law would like to extend our condolences to Bruce Wickersham’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. Donations can be made in his name to The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands, a suicide prevention organization.
