Emotional Video Of Law School Graduate Passing The Bar Exam Goes Viral

Congratulations!

Above the Law is usually a place you can come for fast facts about depressing bar exam news, so it’s easy to forget about the sheer, exuberant joy that passing the test can bring. For those of you who are still waiting to receive your results, here’s a little reminder about how unbelievably happy you’ll be if you pass the bar exam.

Meet Arielle Williams, a 2018 graduate of DePaul University College of Law who is no stranger to overcoming adversity. She is the first person on her mother’s side of the family to graduate from college and earn a professional degree. She had to apply to law school twice. The first time around, she was rejected from every school she applied to. After retaking the LSAT and submitting her second round of applications, she had a change of fortune: she was accepted at every law school she applied to.

I’ve only wanted to be an attorney. It’s the only thing I ever wanted to do. I’m here right now because of my passion. Because of my drive.

Williams was at her law firm, Stone & Associates, when the results from the Illinois bar exam were released. A paralegal filmed Williams as she learned her fate, and her unadulterated, emotional response is enough to make you cry. The video has been viewed almost 4 million times, and you can check it out below. (You may want to turn your volume down because happiness of this magnitude this is incredibly loud.)

Congratulations to Arielle Williams on passing the bar exam, and congratulations to all of our readers who passed during the July 2018 administration of the test. We sincerely hope you had a moment like this, and if you haven’t yet, don’t despair. Many very successful people have failed the bar exam (see our list of famous bar exam failures). Focus on February and develop a plan for passing. Believe in yourselves, because you can — eventually — do it. Keep the faith and press on. Good luck!
