T14 Law School The First In The Nation To Require Coursework On Mental Health

What is your law school doing to foster attorneys' well-being?

What’s really exciting about this is that it’s actually getting woven into the curriculum. This is not a bolt-on program that is given less priority than [students’] academics. This is part of their academics.

John Hollway, associate dean and executive director of the Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice at Penn Law, commenting on the school’s decision to start a pilot program to integrate lessons on mental health and well-being into students’ mandatory, core coursework. These lessons at Penn, said to focus on “resilience and mindfulness of lawyers,” will be part of the school’s Professional Responsibility class.
