He plans to remain on the bench for longer than Justices Oliver Wendell Holmes and John Paul Stevens, who both retired at the age of 90.

— Justice Clarence Thomas, repeatedly rejecting the prospect of retiring from the Supreme Court any time soon, during a speaking engagement at Pepperdine University 46th Annual School of Law Dinner. James Gash, the school’s incoming president, had asked Thomas who he’d like to speak at his retirement party in 20 years, to which the justice assertively responded — “No!” — that he wouldn’t be retiring in 20 years, or even 30 years. Thomas is currently 70 years old.
