Come Solve The Murder In The Manor And Join The eDiscovery Community Giving Back

Get out of your office for a night, and help raise money for those less fortunate. It's win win.

It’s a rare treat to have someone plan an evening of entertainment that also allows you to do some good for the community, and that’s exactly what’s happening next Thursday, May 16, 2019, in Washington, D.C.

Join your hosts from the eDiscovery community to solve the Murder in the Manor, held at the historic Mansion on O Street from 6 to 10:30 p.m. The Mansion on O, listed by Smithsonian Magazine as one of the top 5 historic venues to explore and as one of the best kept secrets in D.C., is located in a series of five interconnected town houses that includes over 100 rooms and over 70 secret doors. It’s the setting for a murder mystery event set in the 1920s in which you’ll work to solve who killed Handsome Sam, the right hand man to a crime boss.

You’ll get to visit different rooms in the Mansion and talk to potential suspects to learn clues. Keep your eyes open and you’ll recognize those suspects as some of my favorite people in the eDiscovery community — Joy Murao and Michelina Gibbs of Practice Aligned Resources (PAR); Tracey Drynan of Cleary Gottlieb; Richard Levis-Fitzgerald and Maribel Rivera of Oasis; Candace Beck of Tanenholz & Associates and Tyler McGreevy of Orrick; Danielle Hagen of Nahigian Strategies; Karen Creel of Sidley; Martha Louks from McDermott; Kelly Fisher of Food from the Bar; and Sarah Gochenaur of the Capital Food Bank. Those suspects are also the committee members who put the event together.

PAR has also created an online tool for detectives to keep track of clues and help you solve the crime.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Capital Area Food Bank — the largest organization in the Washington metro area working to solve hunger and its companion problems: chronic undernutrition, heart disease, and obesity. The CAFB helps nearly half a million people each year get access to good, healthy food — something most of us take for granted every day.

In addition to seeing one of D.C.’s hidden secrets and solving a mystery, you’ll enjoy appetizers and an open bar, and guests who arrive at 6 p.m. will receive a free tour of the Mansion that might come in handy during the crime-solving extravaganza.

Tickets are $125 for VIP status and $75 for Detectives. VIPs get to play a character in the murder mystery — a bootlegger, flapper, crime boss, etc. Tickets are limited and they are selling fast, so hop online and get yours and then pick up your 1920s attire (optional, but Amazon can make this happen for you) and hit the Mansion Thursday night. You’ll still have time afterwards to get back to the office and finish that brief.

A huge shout out to the event sponsors who are covering 100 percent of the costs of the event to maximize the donation to CAFB — Cloud Nine; Oasis; Practice Aligned Resources; Venio Systems; Compiled; Lightspeed; H5; the CJK Group; and Ankura.

The event is an opportunity for all of the sponsors to give back from a maturing eDiscovery industry, according to Oasis CEO Brandon Law. The event is the brainchild of Richard Levis-Fitzgerald, VP of Enterprise Sales for Oasis, who first learned about the murder mystery when hosting a birthday party for his high school son who loves theatre. Richard’s family organizes trips to bring supplies to Corazon de Vida, an organization that supports orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico, and hosts fundraisers encouraging guests to bring items including diapers, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. Richard wanted to bring the same concept to an industry-wide event, and this is the second Murder in the Manor event to bring the goal to life. The first took place last year in NYC to rave reviews.
