Oh Great, Alan Dershowitz Has Advice For Andrew Cuomo

Of course he defends the man accused of sexual harassment.

Oh, Alan Dershowitz. He’s back in the news again, because of course he is. And he’s got advice he wants to share with Andrew Cuomo.

So, what half-baked piece of so-called legal wisdom does he have for the New York governor embroiled in scandal?

“Accusations don’t constitute guilt,” Dershowitz told Newsmax host Carl Higbie. “I wrote a book about it called ‘Guilt by Accusation,’ so I think that Gov. Cuomo should stick to his guns. Let there be a full investigation.”

To be clear, seven 7! women have now come forward to accuse Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment. But Dershowitz is correct, accusations alone aren’t the same as a conviction — though there is an active investigation. But it is also an absurd bit of legal sleight-of-hand to say the burden of proof in a criminal case is the same as pressuring a politician to resign. Something Cuomo — and David Paterson — know only all too well.

Dersh probably thinks this move should give him a lot of credibility — after all, look! he’s defending a Dem now! (Even if he was a Republican all along!) See, a true moment of bipartisanism! But what this entire incident has proven is that Cuomo is Donald Trump with slightly different policies. That Dersh is defending Cuomo in the press is entire on brand.

Remember the Harvard Law professor has an unfortunately long history of taking wild positions (even before he was caught up in the Jeffrey Epstein mess and we all had to think about Dershowitz’s underwear and his “perfect” sex life). He’s also shameless, so throwing himself into the middle of the latest controversy is exactly what you’d expect.

He continued:

“And if nothing more comes out, these sexual allegations are not enough to deprive him and deprive the millions of voters who voted for him of his governorship,” Dershowitz added.

“I take the same position whether a person is a Democrat or Republican, whether I voted for him or against him. The law has to be the same. The shoe on the other foot has to fit.”

See, he wants credit for being an even-handed man of the law, when really that’s just a cloak he wraps himself in to spew hot-takes to get press. And maybe this very article contributes to the hot-take economy, but at least we have the decency to call it bullshit when we hear it.
