Biglaw Firm Hands Out Stress Balls In Lieu Of Special Bonuses

Associates seem to have been made even more stressed by this gesture.

Associates are really enjoying their ‘bonuses.’

On March 19, Willkie Farr announced that it would be handing out another round of special bonuses to associates. Shortly thereafter, Davis Polk upped the ante on the bonuses being offered, and since then, dozens upon dozens of firms have hopped on the bonus bandwagon, inundating associates with cash.

Husch Blackwell — a firm that made $417,056,000 gross revenue in 2020 and came in 95th in the latest Am Law 100 ranking — hasn’t handed out bonuses just yet, but perhaps associates thought that they were finally being rewarded when this arrived at their homes earlier this week.

Ooooh, a big box. What’s in the box? Is it full of bonus cash? Come on, other firms started making bonus announcements a month ago — it has to be related to bonuses. What could it be? Let’s check it out…

It’s a care package with coffee, chocolate, lip balm, a stress ball, and Husch-branded sunglasses. Are associates’ futures are so bright at this firm that they gotta wear shades? Doesn’t sound like it, based on what we’ve heard.

  • No bonuses, just these $10 care packages!

  • The only thing smiling around Husch Blackwell’s offices these days is the stress balls they sent associates instead of the whopping bonuses given by other firms.

  • HB decides to provide stress balls for associates to use while waiting on their lateral application responses.

Eeek! They don’t sound too thrilled. Hopefully Husch Blackwell comes through with a care package their associates actually care about soon… one that’s filled with special bonus bucks. Good luck with that. At least associates now have stress balls to keep them occupied while they keep waiting.
