Some Associates In Some Markets Get Raises At This Biglaw Firm

No, it's not New York associates getting the love.

Biglaw raises are all the rage rn, but that doesn’t mean everyone is feeling the love. Take Dorsey & Whitney. While the firm is giving *some* associates raises, they have not moved up to the Davis Polk scale making its way through the industry.

So what is going on at the firm?

The firm’s managing partner, Bill Stoeri, announced that fourth-year and more senior associates in a limited number of offices (Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Denver) will be getting raises. Effective July 5th, mid to senior associates can expect between a $10,000 to $15,000 raise (full memo available on the next page). And it’s true, those offices were not previously on the $190,000 scale, so it’s not like those markets are getting a boost above Dorsey’s New York or Palo Alto offices. But it *does* mean partners at the firm sat down, thought about associate compensation, and decided the only places they were lacking were Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Denver.

I guess even cracking the Am Law 100 (the firm is ranked 96th this year) doesn’t mean your priorities are the same as other Biglaw firms.

Dorsey associates, we want to hear from you! What do you think about the firm’s salary decision? Will they come back and raise salaries in other markets? Are you pissed the firm isn’t making a bigger salary splash? Text us to sound off: 646-820-8477.

And remember, we depend on your tips to stay on top of this stuff. So when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Raises”). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
