Top Biglaw Firm Issues Vaccine And Universal Masking Mandates For All

All employees must be fully vaccinated at this firm.

Thanks to the Delta variant and vaccine hesitancy, the U.S. remains the country with the highest rate of new COVID cases. Law firms across the country are taking action on this important matter, and have decided to take their employees’ health and safety to heart when instating new office return policies, including recent vaccination mandates.

For reference, the following firms are requiring all employees to be vaccinated before they return to the office: Akin GumpArent FoxBallard SpahrBoies Schiller FlexnerCarlton FieldsCleary GottliebClifford ChanceCooleyCozen O’ConnorCrowell & MoringDavis & GilbertDavis PolkDavis Wright TremaineDebevoise & PlimptonDickinson WrightFaegre Drinker Biddle & ReathGreenberg TraurigFenwick & WestFried FrankGoodwinHanson BridgettHogan LovellsHueston HenniganLowenstein SandlerMcDermott Will & EmeryMintzNorton Rose FulbrightPatterson BelknapPaul WeissReed SmithRopes & GraySanford HeislerSchiff HardinSeyfarth ShawSheppard MulllinSimpson ThacherSkaddenStroock & Stroock & LavanWeil GotshalWilson Sonsini, and Winston & Strawn.

Another Biglaw firm that recently made a move on vaccines is Paul Hastings. Last week, the firm not only decided to reinstate its face covering policy in all U.S. offices, but it also rolled out a new vaccine plan for all personnel working in a U.S. office or attending in-person firm events. Effective August 10, all U.S. employees are expected to be fully vaccinated and practice universal masking. Per a memo from co-managing partners Greg Nitzkowski and Ronan O’Sullivan, these measures will “lesson the likelihood of contagion at the office, and reduce the potential for a vaccinated individual to bring the virus home to family members.” Sources we’ve heard from report that they’re “very happy” about the firm’s vaccine mandate.

Will your firm be changing its plans when it comes to vaccination for attorneys and staff thanks to the Delta variant? Please let us know.

What has your firm announced as far as a reopening plan is concerned? The more information is out there, the more likely it is that firms will be able to establish a market standard for a return to the office.

As soon as you find out about the reopening plan at your firm, please email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Office Reopening”) or text us at (646) 820-8477. We always keep our sources on stories anonymous. There’s no need to send a memo (if one exists) using your firm email account; your personal email account is fine. If a memo has been circulated, please be sure to include it as proof; we like to post complete memos as a service to our readers. You can take a photo of the memo and attach as a picture if you are worried about metadata in a PDF or Word file. Thanks.
