Late last week, Alec Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, with a prop gun on the movie set of the film “Rust.” Baldwin had been told that the gun was “cold,” indicating that it didn’t have live rounds. Halyna leaves behind her husband, Matt Hutchins, a corporate associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins, as well as their nine-year-old son.
As noted by Reuters, Hutchins joined Latham as an associate earlier this year. According to his LinkedIn profile, the Harvard Law grad is an alumnus of Skadden and Kirkland & Ellis, who also worked in-house at an entertainment company.
Context Windows In Legal AI And Why Content Still Determines Quality
Legal teams ask a practical question. If large language models are so capable, why does legal AI still depend on curated content, and why does surfacing that content matter so much?
Hutchins and Baldwin have been in touch, and the attorney says the actor has been supportive. On Friday night, Hutchins spoke out on social media for the first time about the loss of his wife. This is what he said on Twitter:

We at Above the Law would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Halyna and Matt Hutchins during this especially difficult time.
