The holiday season is quickly approaching, and for parents who have brought Elf on the Shelf into their homes for a little extra magic, what should be a time of joy has turned into a time of dread. How can you possibly come up with more elf antics overnight? And what if — heaven forbid — you forget to move the elf? Your children will obviously be scarred for life! Not to worry, because one judge has come up with a solution to all of your elf-related problems, and it’s quite simple.

Thanks to Cobb Judicial Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Robert D. Leonard II, all elves on shelves have been banned (at least in his local jurisdiction).

“Tired of living in Elf on the Shelf tyranny? Not looking forward to the Elf forgetting to move and causing your kids emotional distress? I am a public servant and will take the heat for you. My gift to tired parents,” Judge Leonard tweeted. “P.S. – If you love your elf, keep your elf. No contempts.”

Behold, the order banishing all elves from shelves in Cobb County, Georgia:

Judge Leonard’s order is a mock order, of course, but that didn’t stop members of the public from seeing it and proceeding to respectfully lose their minds. “We are on the verge of civil war and this crap is in the courts right now,” tweeted one distressed Elf on a Shelf fan. “This has got to be a joke! ‘Emotional distress’ over an Elf that requires governmental intervention?” tweeted another.

In the meantime, Judge Leonard’s order was soon picked up by a member of the Georgia Supreme Court, and it was affirmed.

So, parents, if you’re sick and tired of your lives being ruled by an Elf on the Shelf this year, just let your kids know that all elves have been banned this year, and feel free to blame it on this judge. Merry Christmas!
