Trump Lawyer John Eastman Won't Let A Congressional Investigation Get In The Way Of His Coup Plotting

Trump’s cuckoo for coup-coup puffs election lawyer John Eastman isn’t letting a congressional investigation slow him down. ABC News reports that the author of the infamous election-stealing memos met with Wisconsin’s Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos on March 16, 2022 to preach the good word on decertifying elections upwards of a year after the fact.

The meeting followed a December 30, 2021 memo which Eastman wrote for Wisconsin state Representative Timothy Ramthun lawsplaining how the legislature could declare a new winner more or less any time. The memo, which was originally flagged by Rolling Stone, instructs legislators that it is only “prudent statesmanship” to steal electoral votes from their constituents if they think something is wrong with the ballot, arguing that proof of actual fraud may be a political necessity, but is not strictly speaking legally required.

ABC spoke to an election nullification “activist” named Jefferson Davis — fire the writers! — who reports that Eastman “pushed Vos to start ‘reclaiming the electors’ and move forward with ‘either a do over or having a new slate of electors seated that would declare someone else the winner.'”

It should be noted that Wisconsin performed a recount which confirmed President Biden’s win, and the Trump campaign’s promise to have found many “illegal” voters came to nothing.

Nevertheless, the day after the meeting, the former president put out one of his more unhinged statements screeching at Vos that he did, too have the power to overturn an election 17 months after the fact, because “If you rob the diamonds from a jewelry store, if you get caught, you have to give the diamonds back, votes should be no different.”

Characterizing voter access grants from the Center for Technology and Civic Life, which is funded by Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan as “election bribery,” Trump howled that “Our Country would not be in the mess it’s in if Republicans had the courage to act,” adding that “Speaker Vos should do the right thing and correct the Crime of the Century—immediately! It is my opinion that other states will be doing this, Wisconsin should lead the way!”

In fact, other states will not be “doing this,” because “this” is completely illegal. But that hasn’t stopped Eastman from taking his schtick on the road, turning his lies about a stolen election into a regular cottage industry. In February, he showed up at an “emergency town hall meeting” in Colorado to accuse Secretary of State Jenna Griswold of conspiring to commit election fraud, ABC reports.

Eastman, who got yeeted out of his longtime gig at Chapman University Law School after using its servers to plot a coup, complained to the audience in Colorado about “attacks” from haters who say that he’s twisting the law and destroying America’s faith in its electoral system, calling his critics “pure evil.”
