Republicans Introduce Bill To Stop Biden From Forgiving Student Loans

One of its sponsors cites law school debt as an example of why forgiveness would be unfair to 'average Americans.'

Law School loan debtWhy should a woman who is working to make ends meet have her tax dollars go to a person who went to law school. President Biden’s plan is completely unfair to the average American who chose not to attend college.

— Sen. Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), one of the sponsors of the Student Loan Accountability Act, alongside Sens. Mitt Romney (R-UT), Richard Burr (R-NC), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Thom Tillis (R-NC), in a statement in support of the bill, which would prevent President Joe Biden from canceling student loans by prohibiting the Departments of Education, Justice, and Treasury from taking any action to cancel or forgive eligible federal loans, in whole or in part. The bill exempts current federal student loan forgiveness or cancellation programs.
