Biglaw Partner Ordered To Take Driving Safety Course After Running Over, Killing Pedestrian

This partner's 'careless driving' resulted in a woman's death.

police crime tapeWe have some unfortunate news to report from overseas, where a practice leader at Magic Circle mainstay Slaughter and May was involved in a car accident last fall that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

The partner in question, Natalie Yeung, heads up the firm’s competition practice in Asia. RollOnFriday has the details:

A police investigation concluded that the Slaughter and May partner had not been drinking and that her view of the road, which has many narrow bends and is a notorious accident blackspot, was impaired by trees. Although she was allegedly found to have been speeding, she was charged with careless driving rather than the more serious offence of dangerous driving or manslaughter.

Yeung pleaded guilty and was sentenced last week in the South Eastern District Magistrates Court to a fine of HK$3500, equivalent to just under £375 [or about $450 US], and ordered to take a driving safety course within three months.

That’s a cheap fine for taking someone’s life, but we imagine the mental toll for Yeung must be costly. ROF reports that she will remain a partner at the firm.
