Skadden's Four-Day In-Office Work Week Mandate Is A Power Play

Uh-oh. Have associates lost their Biglaw bargaining power?

[This is a] reflection of who is holding the power right now. Right now, the power is largely with the employers and this is the sort of market where it won’t hurt them, at least in the short-term, to institute policies like these.

These are the sorts of things associates and partners are paying attention to.

Michelle Fivel, a partner at legal recruiting firm Hatch Henderson Fivel, in comments given to Bloomberg Law on Skadden’s recent decision to mandate four days of in-office work per week. The firm previously required attorneys to be in the office Tuesday through Thursday, but after Labor Day, attorneys will be required in the office from Monday through Thursday.
