End Of An Era: Yale Booted From No. 1 Spot In Historic U.S. News Law School Rankings Shakeup

Big changes in the T14, along with some of the largest rankings tumbles and gains.

With that out of the way, let’s take a peek at the law schools outside of the Top 50, i.e., the law schools that make up the rest of the Top 100, starting with Nos. 52 through 70. This section of the rankings was especially erratic, with five ties (one tie, two three-way ties, one seven-way tie, and one eight-way tie). Here we saw one school soar with a double-digit gain, and a few drop by quite a bit.

Moving right along, let’s check out the schools that make up the bottom of the Top 100. This segment is the most volatile yet, with one three-way tie, three five-way ties, and one nine-way tie.

Hoooo, boy! These are some of the most offensive drops in rank thus far in the 2026 rankings, right along with some of the biggest gains. Here we have three double-digit drops, and UNLV has one of the largest drops yet, down 12 spots. On the flip side of the coin, we have schools like Buffalo (+12) and Arkansas-Fayetteville (+15) climbing the rankings. Congratulations!
