Reminder: Presidential Management Fellows Applications Are Due Soon

The job market remains challenging for graduating law students. Here at Above the Law, we try to do what we can to bring opportunities to the attention of 3Ls. In recent weeks, we’ve discussed judicial clerkships and the DOJ Honors Program.

Granted, clerkships and the Honors Program are opportunities that are (1) fairly obvious and (2) extremely competitive. Some of you might be asking: Have any other bright ideas, Team ATL?

As a matter of fact, we do….

Say hello to the Presidential Management Fellows Program. You can read more about the PMF program, including the application requirements and timetable, on its official website.

We’ve written about the program before — see, e.g., here, here, and here. If you’re interested in the program, you should read all of our prior posts, which contain detailed information from past participants.

We understand that in recent application cycles, thanks perhaps to (1) the lousy job market for graduating law students and (2) our coverage of the program, the number of law students applying to the PMF program has increased dramatically. Query whether law students will have a tougher time landing PMF positions compared to graduate students from other fields, due to the surplus of law students. In an email that the PMF Program Office sent out this morning, which we’ve reprinted in full below, note how “Law” is last among the listed disciplines (right above “Other”).

Still, as they say, you’ve got to be in it to win it. If you’re interested in applying, now is the time to focus on your application. The application window runs from September 15-25, 2011.

Good luck. And if you know of other opportunities for graduating law students to consider, please feel free to email us.

P.S. Speaking of job opportunities, please do check out the Above the Law Jobs Board from time to time. We add new job listings as often as they come in. If you’re an employer interested in posting, please email winnie@breakingmedia.com.
