Big Bank's Associate GC Found Dead In Apparent Suicide

The former SEC and Skadden lawyer was the second Deutsche Bank executive to commit suicide this year.

Sometimes, lawyers struggling with difficult cases resort to the worst when unable to conquer their legal challenges.

Late last week, Calogero Gambino, a 41-year-old associate general counsel at Deutsche Bank, was found dead in his home, hanging from a stairway bannister with a rope around his neck.

Gambino is the second Deutsche Bank executive to commit suicide this year…

Here’s additional information on the sad news from Corporate Counsel:

Deutsche Bank AG’s legal team suffered a double blow this week when an associate general counsel was found dead in his New York home, and the German bank said its continued legal struggles would result in more than $1 billion in litigation costs in the third quarter. …

Gambino also was a bank managing director who had been working on issues related to a government probe that the bank manipulated the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) benchmark interest rate.

According to his LinkedIn bio, Gambino graduated from St. John’s School of Law in 1997. He joined the Securities and Exchange Commission shortly thereafter, where he remained until 1999. From there, he took a job as an associate at Skadden Arps, and worked there until 2003. He then transitioned to an in-house position at Deutsche Bank, where he was an 11-year veteran at the time of his death.
