NY-Style Corporate/Finance Practice in Washington, DC: better hours, better culture, and better future

About you:  Are you a junior to mid-level corporate/finance associate who has been contemplating a move to (or within) Washington, DC?  In response to increased deal activity requiring “NY (or like-kind) trained” corporate associates, the Washington, DC corporate/finance market is experiencing an unusually high demand for your skills.

About this opportunity:  We currently are sourcing candidates for multiple corporate/finance positions. An example of one such opportunity is with a long-standing client that boasts an unusually appealing platform.  This firm is successful in attracting the best relocation candidates (e.g., NY, Chicago, Boston, Dallas/Houston as well as the West Coast), seeking a sophisticated, high-end public and private company corporate practice.  The secret of the firm’s appeal is its infrastructure and breadth of clients/matters that enables you to direct your practice.  You may choose to have an eclectic mix of M&A, capital markets, finance and securities projects.  On the other hand, if specialization is what you want, that, too, is possible. This firm can be most things to some people.

Culture:  The firm’s corporate group prides itself on being a meritocracy where different types of personalities fit in.  The attorneys, who obviously work hard, also have balanced interests outside of the office.  There is no standard or “one size fits all” personality type. If you are smart, client-friendly, and have a sincere interest in practicing corporate law at the highest level, you will fit in.

Future exit options (including in-house):  This firm’s corporate group promotes people to partner.  Yes, it’s challenging but the two-tier partnership provides more flexibility.  And should you decide that going in-house is your ultimate destination, there is perhaps no other firm in the Washington, DC region to rival the depth of both national and regional clients.  As a result, you are more likely to be paired with clients who will position you for an in-house role with them or another similar company.  This is not something that should be expected going in the door, but this firm increases your long-term odds.

Our experience with this firm: We know this firm extremely well (approaching a 30 year relationship) and have placed more corporate and finance associates here than perhaps all other corporate/finance practices combined in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.  Feedback from successful placements at this firm is consistently and overwhelmingly positive. People like working there.
