Lawyerly Lairs: Justice Neil Gorsuch's House, On The Market For $1.7 Million

This house is handsome and conservative -- just like its owner, Justice Neil "Silver Fox" Gorsuch.

As we reported shortly after his nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, Neil M. Gorsuch is a wealthy man. Justice Gorsuch’s estimated net worth hovers somewhere between $3.2 million and $7.3 million, based on his financial disclosures — and those disclosures don’t require nominees to reveal the value of their personal residences.

We now know the approximate value of Justice Gorsuch’s personal residence — because it’s on the market, as reported by the Denver Post:

In anticipation of his move to Washington, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch recently listed his family’s Boulder County home for sale. And interest in the $1.675 million home, located 10 miles from Pearl Street Mall and surrounded by open space with stunning mountain views, is already high, listing agent Deborah Read Fowler said.

And not just because of the fame of its current owner. The house has much to recommend it:

Known as haven to hippies and base camp for outdoor enthusiasts, Boulder is one of the hottest real estate markets in the country. Last summer, the average home price surpassed $1 million.

The country-style property is a four-bedroom, five-bath home in northeast Boulder. [It i]ncludes an orchard, and a three-stall barn and paddocks. The three-acre property features professionally landscaped gardens and a heated swimming pool.

In a neighborhood located about 20 minutes northeast of downtown Boulder, the property at 5373 Lookout Ridge Drive is near a large network of trails and neighbors 71 acres of pastures owned by an equestrian center.

If Justice Gorsuch gets close to his list price, he’ll make a nice profit. Per the Post, he purchased the property in January 2007 for $1.03 million.

I’ve looked at the listing, and I’m impressed by the judicial manse. It compares favorably with current and former homes of Justice Gorsuch’s colleagues on the Court, including Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s condo, bought in 2012 for $660,000, and Justice Samuel A. Alito’s former New Jersey home, sold in 2007 for around $1 million.

I’ve previously described Neil “Silver Fox” Gorsuch as very handsome, and the same could be said of his home. Time for a tour!
