Firm Used To Being On The Top Of The Salary Pile Makes Its Move

The $205K scale makes its way to Cali.

Well, the 2021 associate raises are slowing making their way out west. Fenwick was an early mover, adopting the Milbank scale (still no word on whether a re-raise is in the offing at the firm), but otherwise it’s been pretty quiet on the west coast. But now we have our first California match of the slightly enhanced, $205,000 pay scale.

Hueston Hennigan, a California boutique law firm known for beating the market with its annual bonuses, has announced salary increases for associates — as well as counsel — effective July 1, 2021. The firm is matching the scale set by Davis Polk, meaning the following is what folks there will shortly be paid:

Class of 2020: $205,000
Class of 2019: $215,000
Class of 2018: $240,000
Class of 2017: $275,000
Class of 2016: $305,000
Class of 2015: $330,000
Class of 2014: $350,000
Class of 2013 and earlier: $365,000

You can read the firm’s full memo on the next page.

Remember everyone, we depend on your tips to stay on top of this stuff. So when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Raises”). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
