Everything Is Bigger In Texas, Including The Associate Salaries

Lassoing raises at this boutique firm!

If you’re looking to lateral but would rather move to a boutique than go back to Biglaw, never forget that a small firm can still pack a mighty punch when it comes to compensation. We now have news that yet another boutique law firm — this time, one in Texas — has decided to giddy-up alongside Biglaw’s best in 2021’s summer salary wars.

Houston-based litigation boutique Smyser Kaplan & Veselka has announced a new salary scale for its associates. Check out the new scale, effective July 1:

  • 2021: $205,000
  • 2020: $205,000
  • 2019: $215,000
  • 2018: $240,000
  • 2017: $275,000
  • 2016: $305,000
  • 2015: $330,000
  • 2014: $350,000

Congratulations to everyone at SKV!

We depend on your tips to stay on top of this stuff. So when your firm matches, please text us (646-820-8477) or email us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Matches”). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
