Stat Of The Week: The Keepers Of The Legal Tech
This department is key.
As Bob Ambrogi noted in an Above the Law column last year, robots are not coming for law librarians’ jobs anytime soon.
In fact, a new report explores just how essential they’ve become to tech adoption.
The American Association of Law Libraries’ 2021 State of the Profession report notes that just about all law firm and corporate law libraries test new technology platforms and recommend products for purchase (95.6% and 97.1%, respectively). For negotiating contracts, that number grows to 100%.

The report draws on 537 responses from a survey of all AALL members and other designated parties sent in January 2021, and includes data on academic and government law library operations as well.
As Ambrogi writes in a post detailing the new report: “While roles vary at the different types of institutions, technology and innovation are common threads among them.”
