Skadden Steps Up To Thank Associates With A Different Kind Of Holiday 'Bonus'

No, it's not cash, but it's still very nice.

It’s Biglaw bonus season, and associates across the country are expecting to soon receive gigantic wads of cash from their firms. Something that associates perhaps aren’t expecting to receive from their firms are actual holiday gifts — but one firm is doing just that.

Just before Cravath announced its year-end bonuses of up to $115,000, Skadden notified associates that they’d be receiving appreciation gifts as an expression of gratitude from the firm for their “extraordinary efforts” during these trying times.

What will associates at the firm be taking home as thank-you gifts from Skadden this holiday season? Here’s a nice note that all associates received with the details:

An iPad Pro, an Apple Pencil, and a Magic Keyboard are lovely gifts from the firm. It may not be straight cash, but all of these Apple accoutrements are worth in the ballpark of $1,000 or more combined. Let’s just hope that these holiday gifts from Skadden are all meant to be for personal use.

It’s nice to see a firm stepping up with a new and fun way to show their  associates some love. Are other firms taking similar measures? Let us know! Please email it to us (subject line: “[Firm Name] Thanks”) or text us (646-820-8477). Please include the memo if available. You can take a photo of the memo and send it via text or email if you don’t want to forward the original PDF or Word file.
